Tim Haynes - Profile

Tim Haynes was 4 years old when he first took to the water in Poole Harbour and learned to sail in dinghies. From this humble beginning he has sailed nearly every conceivable type of boat and yacht around.

It was clear to all who knew him that a career in the marine industry was the only logical choice for a boy who liked “messing about” on the water.

Tim’s working life began as a charter boat skipper in 1979. In a career that spans 25 years he has been involved with sailing’s elite having competed for Great Britain in Admiral Cup Regattas, Sardinia Cup Regattas, America’s Cup Campaigns and many ocean and transatlantic races.

In 1982 Tim began working for Peter Morton, probably the best rigger in Europe at that time. He moved on to become manager at Riggarna before branching out on his own as a rigging consultant in 1991. Over the next 9 years he was responsible for a large variety of projects ranging from dinghy mast development to rigging projects for world record breaking multihulls.

A move to New Zealand in 2000 took Tim to Southern Rigging, a division of Southern Spars, where he was manager responsible for overseeing the rigging department during the 2002 America’s Cup.

Tim returned to England in 2002 and has become the Managing Director of Tim Haynes Limited, a leading rigging company with an international reputation.
